Apple bars prediction-market trading using confidential information

Apple’s SEC-filed policy restricts trading and tipping using work information, even where securities insider-trading laws do not apply.

By Neville Munjogu·November 4, 2026·

Apple explicitly prohibits prediction-market trading using confidential information obtained through work, under a policy filed with its annual report on 3 November.

The insider-trading policy, marked updated October 2026, covers Apple personnel, including directors, employees, contractors and consultants. Its prediction-market clause also covers work information about other companies, including suppliers and customers.

Apple prohibits sharing that information with others who may trade on it. The restriction applies even where the activity does not constitute insider trading or securities trading under applicable law.

This is a restriction on using confidential information, rather than a blanket ban on employees participating in prediction markets.

The wording gives Apple a basis to enforce its confidentiality rules independently of a contract's legal classification. The policy allows disciplinary action, including dismissal, for violations. It does not identify prediction-market enforcement cases or name any exchange.
